Sweet, complex, smoky, and rich … maybe our favorite peated Single Malt so far this year.

Tobermory is a medium-sized Single Malt distillery on the Scottish Isle of Mull. It was originally founded in 1789 and has been bought and sold and closed and reopened several times over it’s two-hundred year history. Now get this… it has been named and renamed five times. Two of those names were Ledaig and Tobermory. And whatever production is not put into various blended Whiskies is put into their two Single Malt offerings: the “sweeter” Tobermory and the peated Ledaig.

19 years is an odd number of years for a Single Malt. But there is a reason for it. You see, Ledaig already has a signature 18YO in its core lineup. Ledaig Scotch Single Malt 19 Year Marsala Wine Cask Finish is that same gorgeous Whisky finished for an extra year in Marsala Wine casks. The result is a whisky that tastes like what we might imagine Ernest Hemingway’s library would smell like — heavy with sweet Cuban cigar and leather aromas. But this Single Malt is also complex and delicate on the palate with a hint of sweetness and sea salt. It could be our favorite peated Whisky so far this year.
